Scope

This policy applies to HEIC Converter (desktop conversion app), HEIC Explorer Preview (Windows Explorer thumbnails and preview pane), and the website heic-converters.com, operated by the same publisher. One policy covers both apps unless a section says otherwise.

The Short Version

Our desktop software processes all files locally on your computer. Your photos never leave your machine and are never uploaded to any server. We do not use your photos for AI training, analytics, or any other purpose.

1. Desktop Applications

a) HEIC Converter

The HEIC Converter desktop application runs entirely offline. It does not transmit your files, filenames, folder paths, or any content from your photos to us or any third party.

The application may make an optional outbound network request to check for a newer version. That request sends only the current app version number. No personal data is included.

License validation is performed locally using your license key. No ongoing internet connection is required after activation.

b) HEIC Explorer Preview

HEIC Explorer Preview is a Windows Explorer extension that generates thumbnails and preview-pane images locally. It does not upload photos, filenames, or folder paths to us or any third party.

This extension does not include a built-in update checker or license phone-home. It runs offline after installation.

2. Information We Collect on the Website

a) Purchase Information

When you buy HEIC Converter through our website, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your email address and payment confirmation. We do not see or store your credit card number.

When you buy HEIC Explorer Preview through the Microsoft Store, payment and account data are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We do not receive your Microsoft account details unless you contact us for support.

b) Download Analytics

When you download the installer, we log your IP address, approximate geographic location (city/country, via ipinfo.io), browser, device type, and the referring page. This helps us understand where our users come from and which channels drive downloads. We do not link this data to your identity.

c) Feedback

If you submit feedback through the app or website, we collect the message content and your email (if you choose to provide one). This is stored in our database so we can read and respond to your feedback.

d) Roadmap Voting

When you vote on a feature in our public roadmap, we store a hash of your IP address to prevent duplicate votes. We do not associate votes with any personal identity.

e) Cookies & Analytics

Our website uses Google Tag Manager (GTM) to understand site traffic. GTM may set cookies in your browser. You can block these with your browser's built-in cookie settings or a content blocker. We do not run any additional third-party trackers beyond GTM.

3. How We Store Your Data

Website data (download logs, feedback, email records) is stored in a Neon PostgreSQL database. The website is hosted on Vercel. Both providers maintain their own security and privacy practices.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is only shared with the service providers listed above to the extent necessary to operate the website and process payments.

6. Data Retention

Download logs and analytics data are retained indefinitely in aggregate form. Purchase records are retained as long as needed for license support and legal/tax obligations. You can request deletion of your data by contacting us.

7. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing us through our contact page. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

HEIC Converter and HEIC Explorer Preview are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the software or website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
